Online School Technical FAQs
No need to worry, you don’t have to be a computer wizard to attend an online school or to understand the technical requirements at Arizona Virtual Academy (AZVA). We’ve got you covered with answers to the most common tech questions families have about our online school in the FAQs below.
Check out this help article for simple, up-to-date information about computers and technical requirements from our K12 School (OLS) platform.
Do I need to have access to a computer to attend online school?
Yes, students need a computer that meets the minimum specifications necessary to access the K12 School (OLS) and an internet connection to use Arizona Virtual Academy’s online school platform by K12.
What happens if I cannot afford a computer for my student to attend online school?
In certain cases, based on financial need, Arizona Virtual Academy may loan a computer to an enrolling family. This determination will take place during the enrollment process.
What kind of computer skills are required to attend an online school like AZVA?
Using a computer is fundamental to participating in an online school, but you and your student only need basic computer skills to attend. In the earlier elementary grades, the student’s Learning Coach (a parent, guardian, or another trusted adult) is required to use the computer to help their younger child learn and participate in online school. Learning Coaches always play a vital role in their student’s education, but the teachers at Arizona Virtual Academy support students directly. During middle and high school, the Learning Coach’s direct role with the computer lessens significantly as students become more self-directed and computer fluent.
Is Arizona Virtual Academy really tuition-free?
Yes, Arizona Virtual Academy is a tuition-free online public school. Students receive full access to K12’s high-quality curriculum at no cost, and eligible families may also receive a loaner computer and an internet stipend to help defray costs. Reach out to our enrollment consultants to find out if your family qualifies for a laptop and stipend.
Do I need high-speed internet access to attend an online school?
No. While it’s nice to have access to high-speed internet to make the online learning experience more seamless, high-speed internet is not a requirement for enrollment or attendance.
