Family Fun Day Fall 2025: K12 Families, Staff, and Students Came Together for a Day of Connection
Last month, hundreds of Arizona Virtual Academy and Insight Academy of Arizona students, faculty, teachers and families stepped away from the screen and into the sunshine for the fall K12 Family Fun Day. Held at the Goodyear Recreation Campus and accompanied by perfect fall weather, participants were able to meet face-to-face to deepen their peer and teacher relationships and meet families with similar journeys and backgrounds, all while having a little fun outdoors.
Parents chatted with other families who understood the unique rhythms of online schooling, students connected with their current and past classmates and teachers had the chance to interact with their classes in a vibrant in-person setting. While participants mixed and mingled, there were games, activities and information booths set up around the park. With plenty of delicious snacks, interactive art and crafts and prizes to be won, there was something for everyone.
One of the highlights of the day was the Career and Technical Education (CTE) showcase, featuring student projects, CTE programs and student-run storefronts that lined the park like a mini farmers marketplace. These young entrepreneurs proudly displayed their products, demonstrating both creativity and career-ready skills. From homemade dog treats to crocheted items crafted with impressive detail, the students not only sold their hand-crafted goods, but interacted with customers as impressive businesspeople.
There was also a booth run by a group of students dedicated to a community action project aimed at saving the beloved McAlpine’s Diner. Their passion for making a difference, paired with real-world business and marketing skills, impressed families and staff alike.
What made the day truly special was the sense of belonging it created. Online learning can be incredibly dynamic and engaging, but opportunities like Family Fun Day allow students to deepen relationships, build confidence and feel part of a community. While virtual classrooms offer flexibility, comfort and individualized learning, nothing compares to the joy of seeing students, families and teachers connect in real life. These in-person moments help bridge the digital gap and remind students that while they may learn from home, they are never alone. We are so grateful to every student, family, teacher and staff member who helped make the day unforgettable.
We are looking forward to many more joyful gatherings ahead!
